Marc…AKA The Terminator 😉 You’ve been crushin it lately and it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Congrats on being voted our December 7 Miler of the month – ending the year with a bang! 😉
We have a few questions below for you to answer so people can get to know you a little better. We will have to get a photo of you as well to attach to your answers. We can’t wait to see your answers too btw :)))
1)Tell us a little bit about yourself – including something we may not know about you, where you grew up and something you miss from home.
I generally do not like talking about myself (seriously) but I will do my best. I am a Software Engineer (for far longer than I care to admit). I have been “doing” CrossFit since 2014 (with a few breaks due to injury). I grew up in Barrie, Ontario, Canada and have 2 fantastic kids who are in university. Something you probably do not know about me is that I played hockey against the New Zealand and Australian National Teams in 2003 and 2004…of course we kicked their…pucks. LOL
2)What was the hardest part when you started out with us and how did you overcome that?
Getting comfortable enough to actually talk to people. It takes me a while to get to that point, but now that the flood gates are open, there’s no closing them. I got past that by just continuing to come back to the gym and slowly talking to people I recognized.
3)You have been so consistent over the last little while. What keeps you coming back besides our awesome coaches 😉 ?
After taking a bit of time away from the gym, I decided that I needed to get back at it so I looked “good” for my wedding (oh, yeah, I am getting married). Of course, it was supposed to be in October 2020…now it’s July 2022. YAY!
4)2021 is almost over. Is there anything you wish you would have done differently this year or anything you checked off the to-do list that you’re proud of for doing so?
I bettered my all-time deadlift PR!!!!!!!!! After turning 50 no less!!!!!!
5)The borders have opened – yay! Where is the first place you’re goin?
Home!!!! I have family and friends that I really need to see and to finally get to introduce Chantal to. And a Luke Combs concert! And a Leafs game!!!
6)When you see _____ in a workout, it makes you do a fist pump.
DEADLIFTS!!
7)When you see _____ in a workout, it makes you want to turn around and go home.
That list is far too long…burpees, running, double-unders. But I think there might be one that is far worse for me…push-ups!!!!! Although, I’d like to think I am getting better at them (thanks, Mere!)
8)What have you learned about yourself since joining our 7 Mile family?
That my age is just a number, but that I do not have to compete with the young bucks.
9)What would you say is the best/favorite part of your day?
Morning coffee…er…I mean noon CF class!!!
10)Anything crazy on your bucket list?(bungee jumping, sky diving, hiking?)
I have never been to Europe…would love to go to France, Italy and Greece. For the architecture, of course. It has nothing to do with food and wine.
11)Favorite song?
Far too many choices here…I grew up on Country music so I always come home to my roots. I am huge Luke Combs fan right now…so maybe “One Number Away”…I love working out to that song.
12)If you could write your own WOD, what would it look like?
Deadlfts, rowing and wall-balls…wait…wasn’t that in the Open a few years ago? 16.4 & 17.4, I think. Of course, I modified and did hand-release push-ups 🙂
13)Would you recommend 7 Mile Strength & Fitness to others and if so, why?
Absolutely! At first I was not a fan of the Level Method and resisted a bit (ok, maybe a lot), but I have really come around on this and firmly believe it is the best way to do this style of workout. Add to that, the coaches all seem to care about the well-being of the athletes and ensuring they are not doing anything that may cause injuries.
Thanks Marc, we are proud to have you as our December 7 Miler. Bring on 2022!!
