How long have you been doing our classes?
I think it was April/May 2019.
What made you decide to give 7 Mile Strength & Fitness a try?
I wanted to get back into CrossFit. Self-motivating at Anytime Fitness wasn’t working.
What was the hardest part when you started out and how did you overcome that?
Making the time and getting into a regular routine with the class schedule. The up front PT sessions with Coach Trevor definitely helped that.
Name one thing you really miss from back home in South Africa.
Pepper steak pies and watching rugby at a reasonable time.
You haven’t been on island for very long – what would you say has been the hardest adjustment so far? I know it isn’t the mango shots, those are pretty easy to get used to!
Ha! I actually haven’t found anything to be difficult. I love living here, it surpassed my expectations. It feels like living in SA without the drama.
We only have a few more months to go in 2020 – were there any goals you set out to accomplish checked off the list? Are there any current goals you’re planning on working toward for 2021?
All checked. Finally beating ‘Rocket’ (aka Tamsin) in the WOD yesterday was one.
Anything you’d like to do once the travel restrictions are completely lifted – where you can travel without being in quarantine afterwards (if that day ever comes!)?
I have snowboarding trip in Feb planned and maybe a trip to watch the Lions Tour South Africa in the summer.
Anything people at 7 Mile Strength & Fitness don’t know about you?
Favourite movies: ‘Fast and the Furious’ and ‘Indiana Jones’… classics!
Anything crazy on your bucket list? (bungee jumping, sky diving, hiking?)
I have done the bungee twice. Once in Zimbabwe and the other in SA. I don’t think there will be a third. I would be keen for a hike up Kilimanjaro.
What is your favorite WOD and why?
The Viking:
4000m Row
1 Mile Run, with Sledgehammer
200 Sledgehammer Strikes
1 Mile Run, with Sledgehammer
4000m Row
Why?… just a long grinder.
What is your least favourite WOD and why?
Anything with burpees.
What has been your biggest surprise about following the Level Method methodology?
My upper body pull/push sucked – tore off my bicep in 2015. We (Trevor and I) have been working on it since and is much better. I have a lot more range of motion. And, my row was my biggest surprise.
Would you recommend 7 Mile Strength & Fitness to others and if so, why?
Yes… for sure! You are the best.
Thanks, Mark! We are proud to have you as the October 7 Miler of the Month!
